Yesterday saw scenes of celebration at GE Arena as DUWFC celebrated winning the SWFL2 East League in their first season, and what a first season it has been. Since being formed from scratch last summer the team have won both the SWFL2 (Scottish Women's Football League Division 2) Cup and now the SWFL2 East League title. During their first league campaign the team have won every competitive league game. Promotion means that DUWFC will be playing in the SWFL Division 1 next season and their ambition is to win this league to gain access to the Scottish Women's Premier League. The ladies were presented with the League trophy by Dundee United "Hall of Famers", Hamish McAlpine and Sean Dillon.

David Dorward, Chair said “We are proud to support DUWFC and congratulate everyone involved who have worked so hard behind the scenes to make the first season such a success. UNITED for ALL see supporting DUWFC as a key part of our community objectives and of course we will be supporting the team again next season.”

Justine Mitchell, Chair of DUWFC and UfA Trustee, added "Women's football is the fastest growing sport in the world and it was the natural progression for Dundee United to have a Women's Team. lt was also important to me that the community have this women's team, which is why DUWFC has been formed as part of the Community Trust, UNITED for ALL.

As part of DUWFC's desire to build and promote women's football in Dundee they are now setting up a Development Team with trials for this due to take place in November. The Development Team will play in the League DUWFC have just won, the SWFL2 East League. ln addition, DUWFC have been in discussions with other local clubs with a view to creating partnerships, again to develop and promote girls and women's football in the area.

DUWFC believe creating partnerships with local grassroots clubs in the area is the best way to support the grovrrth of the game. These partnerships will provide a structured development model for everyone involved which in turn will create a "win win" situation for clubs, coaches and most importantly the players, we flrmly believe that a football Club should be at the heart of the community and vice versa. We are at a very exciting time in women's football with the sport growing so fast. We have the National Team havlng qualified for the Women's Euros 2017 for the first time and Glasgow City and Hibernian Ladies playing in the Champions League. lt is a great time to be part of this."

Credit must of course go to the players who have performed fantastically well in their inaugural season, as well as the Coaches and the backroom staff, lt has been an amazing team effort in their first season. Head Coach, Gavin Beith said: "l'm delighted that in our first season we have secured the League and Cup double. All players, coaches and committee members have worked so hard to make this happen. The commitment shown from all has been outstanding. This season has given the Club a great foundation to build upon."

Justine Mitchell wanted to express gratitude to all involved, "l just want to thank everyone, the players, the Coaches and Lorna Moffat, our Club Secretary, who have all worked very hard to make this happen. lt has been a joy to get to know the girls and see them grow as players. A huge thanks also has to go to our Sponsors who helped to make this happen. DUWFC is self sufficient and this sponsorship assisted us to buy our kit. Thank you to Dr Noodles, ArabTRUST, DUDA and Paint-tec. Last but not least, a massive thank you to everyone who has backed the team this season. The whole of DUWFC appreciate your support."

DUWFC ANNOUNCE SPONSORS                          15 FEBRUARY 2016 NEWS

The Dundee United Women’s Team today announced it has secured four main sponsors ahead of the kick-off of its inaugural season on Sunday, 6 March. The sponsors (Dr Noodles, ArabTRUST, Paint-tec and D.U.D.A.) were all present today alongside representatives of the DUWFC team as the UNITED for ALL Community Trust launched its first project within the new partnership agreement with Dundee United FC.

Dundee United board member and UfA Trustee Justine Mitchell said, “I want to thank each of the sponsors who have offered their backing to the team. This support has ensured that the team remains totally self sufficient, and that is a vital ingredient in the project becoming a success. It was important to me that, as part of our community structure at the Club, we have a women’s team with a professional set-up and this has been achieved with the financial support of sponsors and some good old-fashioned hard work.

“It is a very exciting day today. Seeing the fixture list really brings home the reality of the hard work that has been put into getting to this stage and it is now coming to fruition. Through the efforts of Head Coach Gavin Beith, his backroom team and other volunteers, we now have a squad of players who can make a real impact in the league.

“The hard work of the various volunteers, from the head coach to administration staff, has added so much energy to the pace at which we have got things ready for the season. We have a fantastic set-up in place and I look forward to supporting the team over the course of the season and watching them become a success. This will be the first step in the vision of providing footballing opportunities for females of all ages.”

Head Coach Gavin Beith said, “Everything is now in place and seeing the fixtures on paper means we can now build up to the start of the season. The players have all been excellent so far in their efforts to get to the standard we want to be at. A big area of being part of Dundee United is ensuring we install the standards of the Club within the women’s team and getting the official kit and team wear makes the squad feel part of the set up. It is now about doing as well as we can on the park and I am sure the players we have will deliver performances to be proud of.”

Stuart Crighton of Dr Noodles said, “Dr Noodles have a strong relationship with Dundee United and I am proud to be the shirt sponsor of the women’s team. I have no doubt that this team will be a success and I look forward to watching them with our company logo emblazoned on the front of the official shirts.

Grant McKenzie, ArabTRUST Chairman and UfA Trustee, said:  “ArabTRUST is delighted to be one of the first sponsors of Dundee United WFC. The Trust strongly believes that by sponsoring and supporting this new venture we can play our part in helping deliver a pathway for female football participation in Dundee and the surrounding areas.

“Supporting community projects is one of the core principles on which ArabTRUST is built upon and we are very excited to work with the Club, UNITED for ALL and the wider Dundee United family to back the women’s team.”

Stuart Campbell, MD of Paint-tec said, “As life-long supporters of Dundee United and proud sponsors of the Club, we are delighted to support DUWFC and the Community Trust as official short sponsors. Paint-tec have many customers in the Dundee area and helping such an important resource as the Community Trust is our way of giving something back locally.”

Colin Stewart, Chairman of DUDA and UfA Trustee, said, “DUDA are thrilled to be involved in supporting the Dundee United Women’s Team with a donation from the United Futures Lottery and 50/50 match day draw proceeds.

“DUDA feel that this will help in the development of our aims and objectives and we look forward to continuing to support the project in the coming years. Dundee United have a large amount of female supporters and having a women’s team associated with the Club will be of great benefit.”

Speaking on behalf of UNITED for ALL, Secretary Mike Barile said, “UNITED for ALL is delighted to be involved at the start of this fantastic initiative because an integral part of our aims is to offer hundreds of local women and girls the opportunity to enhance their sporting and footballing skills with new and exciting coaching programmes.

“Today is just the start of an ambitious project designed to inspire our female community.  A successful DUWFC will definitely lead to more participation and encourage women of all ages and abilities to be involved.  The players will become very visible role models.”
