BURNS SUPPER EVENT                                11 JANUARY 2017 NEWS

UNITED for ALL will be celebrating volunteerism in Dundee by holding a Burns Supper on Wednesday 1st February 2017 thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

After successfully applying to the Big Lottery Fund’s Celebrate programme UNITED for ALL has been awarded £4,250 which will be used to host a one-day event at 7pm on Wednesday 1stFebruary 2017 at The Hegarty Suite, Tannadice Park, Tannadice Street, Dundee, DD3 7JW.

On the day all corners of the community are invited to come together to celebrate volunteerism and community cohesion through a Traditional Burns Supper event. Volunteerism is an important part of the local area because there is so much good work that goes on in the communities across Dundee thanks to the effort and commitment of volunteering and its important to recognise and reward this.

Jamie Kirk, Community Trust Manager at UNITED for ALL, had this to say about the event

It’s fantastic to be able to give something back to the local community, especially those who give so much to others during the course of their everyday lives.  There are many services in this City which simply could not exist without the help of dedicated and passionate volunteers and this event is a massive big thank you from everyone at UNITED for ALL and everyone across the City.  The nominations process involved bringing together so many partners within the City – all of whom are delighted to be able to reward those who give up their time.  I hope everyone who attends has a fantastic night.”

The Big Lottery Fund found that more than half (63%) of people asked reported that they have never or cannot remember ever coming together to celebrate with their local neighbourhood. If given the chance, more than 40% would like to celebrate their local history, and more than two fifths (43%) of those aged 16 to 24 would celebrate their local culture, art or music.

In response to these findings the Big Lottery Fund asked for local groups and organisations of all shapes and sizes to apply for funding, to hold events or activities that would bring people together and celebrate what makes their local community special.

The Celebrate programme is the perfect opportunity for people to showcase and enjoy something important to their community, be it an iconic building, a precious landscape, a unique service or a community hero. There is £5 million available in total across the UK.
